Indiana Jones Temple of the Golden Idol: REVIEW

Whether you are a fan of Indiana Jones or Lego in general, you will love this new set: LEGO Indiana Jones Temple of the Golden Idol 77015. The set recreates the iconic opening scene from the first Indiana Jones movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark. The build is super detailed and interactive and looks amazing on display.

What’s in the box?

The set includes 1,545 pieces, a 281-page manual, and four minifigures including: Indiana Jones, Satipo, Belloq, and a Hovitos Warrior. Its dimensions are 51cm/20in long and 23cm/9in tall.

The instruction booklet is neat-looking and include some writeups about Indiana Jones movies. One page even features a timeline of Indiana Jones movies.

I really like the minifigures and have no complaints regarding their design. Unlike Lego Indiana Jones of the past, this Indiana Jones figure has hair! His headpiece now features his iconic hat attached to brown hair—making his design so much better and a must-have. Two of the other figures, Satipo and the Hovitos Warrior have never been included in a Lego set before and I’m really excited to be adding additional characters to my Indiana Jones Lego collection.

Three of the minifigures have dual-sided heads. Indiana Jones has webs on the back of his face—making him different than the Indiana Jones minifigures that are included in the other new sets, Fighter Plane Chase and Escape from the Lost Tomb.

What can you do with it?

The model is full traps just like the scene in the movie. There are four knobs that each cause an event to happen in the set.

The first knob causes the round boulder to roll down to chase Indy. I do wish the ball roll lasted a little longer as it feels a little short to me (for being the most iconic part of the scene). I still like it though and I like that it was designed using Lego pieces rather than just being a smooth ball (as it appeared in the original Lego Temple Escape set).

The second knob opens a door vertically and the third knob causes the twig above the hole turn.

The last knob causes a statue to come out and fall above the golden idol.

You can also press a button on top of the set to activate a light brick and cause the idol to glow.

The model includes some really cool details like face-carvings, spiders, a skeleton, Indiana’s bag of sand, and skull-like décor.

My Thoughts?

I love it! This is by far one of my favorite Lego sets and a major improvement from the original Lego Indiana Jones models. It is very accurate and impressive and the minifigures are well-designed.

The set is expensive and I do wish we could get more minifigures in the set for $149.99, but I understand that the scene in the movie only had so many characters. Maybe if they could have added another Hovitos Warrior?

The build itself is also a little tricky and challenging, which may be harder for a younger Lego fan to build.

Overall, I highly recommend this set and I hope we get to see more Indiana Jones sets later; Perhaps ones based on The Temple of Doom and the new movie coming out, The Dial of Destiny.
