One of Lego’s newest Star Wars sets is a holiday-themed set—though it’s not an advent calendar—making this a first of its kind. The set, Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama: 40658, is a small, expensive set exclusive to the year 2023—meaning it will no longer be available in 2024. Read below to see our thoughts on this set and everything it includes!

What’s in the box?

The set only includes 282 pieces and is priced at $29.99 at Lego.com. Together, the pieces create a holiday-decorated room of the Millenium Falcon with three minifigures, plus a BB-8 droid and a porg brick-built animal.

The set is festive, with a plethora of holiday decorations, and is set up to be a display piece. The included minifigures are a holiday-exclusive Rey, a holiday-exclusive Finn, a generic Chewbacca, a BB-68, and a porg. Rey includes a Jedi book, which is blank inside—though has a printed cover.

This set is very unique, as it is the first Lego Star Wars set to feature Christmas characters not in an advent calendar setup.

Something very important to note is that this set is time-limited and will supposedly be retiring by the end of December 2023.

My Thoughts?

The build itself isn’t exactly remarkable, but it’s exactly what you’d expect. It’s supposed to be a part of the millennium falcon all decked out for the holidays. It’s honestly kind of hard to see that it is actually the Millennium Falcon, or even a star wars ship at all, based on the build alone and could be interpreted as any generic gray room. The addition of the holiday decorations also takes away from any Star Wars feel that is left over. So overall, as a Star Wars model, it’s not the neatest, it’s not very detailed, and it’s not the most recognizable Lego set. (Though, as a $29.99 set, I suppose this is fair, compared to the other recent Star Wars diorama sets that are priced at $99.99).

I did notice, however, that 99% of the holiday pieces were all contained in the last bag, and the rest in the first bags—meaning if you don’t want to theme this set around the holidays, you could simply leave off the last bag of this set. Though the model wasn’t super impressive, the minifigures included are neat and exclusive.

I’m going to focus this review on the exclusive minifigures in this set, Rey and Finn. They are both given neat Christmas sweater torsos—with Rey in a green Millennium Falcon sweater and Finn in a blue Resistance sweater. They both also include lightsabers—though for some reason Rey’s blade is green, rather than blue, or even the much needed yellow lightsaber. Maybe her lightsaber is green to be more festive? Lightsabers aside, I love these two minifigures and are perfect to add to your holiday Star Wars minifigures that come in the yearly Lego Star Wars advent calendar.
