Newly Announced Mario Set Available for Pre-Order

Hello and welcome back to the New Brick Times! Recently, Lego announced a new Lego Mario set: Larry’s and Morton’s Airships Expansion Set – 71427.

This set brings back Larry and brings another Koopaling we’ve never seen before in Lego form: Morton. The set features two small airships belonging to the mentioned Koopalings. Using Lego Mario, Peach, or Luigi, will activate sound effects and fight a virtual cannon battle.

It will contain 1062 pieces and will retail for $79.99. The set is currently available for pre-order at this link but will officially release on August 1st.

Looking at the three included minifigures, I have a mix of feelings. I am so glad to see Morton finally take his place in the Lego version of Mario’s universe, but we are still missing Roy—the only Koopaling we are yet to see in Lego form. Instead, Larry was brought back, despite the fact we saw him only a few years ago. I would honestly prefer they left Larry exclusive, to keep him rare for those who bought his set in 2021. Also brought back is a Pirate Goomba (one also appeared in the original, larger, Bowser’s Airship) though this one has a different facial expression.

Overall I think the set looks cool, though I wish the airships didn’t have the koopalings faces on the front. As a fan of the original Super Mario Bros. 3 videogame, I would have preferred these small ships to be more generic, without the big faces, to go along with Bowser’s bigger airship. Besides this, I loved the original Bowser’s Airship, and I think these will still be nice to add to its display. It would almost be cool if they continued to make these, and eventually made one for each of the Koopalings.

This set will be coming out on August 1st and is actually available for pre-order currently. Use this link to see its details and pre-order it:
