Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot 76993: REVIEW

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of Lego’s newest themes and is based on characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog videogames and cartoons. Today, I will be reviewing one of the popular Lego Sonic sets: Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot 76993.

What’s in the box?

This set contains 615 pieces and can be bought for $59.99 at Lego.com. Included is an instruction manual, 3 minifigures, 3 animal figures, a giant robot build, and some other small models such as a spike trap and a ramp.

The most notable part of this set is Dr. Eggman’s robot, which is large and very poseable. Each limb moves, the dome on the top can open and host a driver, and its back opens up to reveal a small interior. The robot’s left arm can also shoot Lego studs when rotated. The robot measures over 6 in. / 15 cm high, 5 in. / 13 cm wide, and 3.5 in. / 9 cm deep.

Also included is a Sonic sphere launcher. By placing the Sonic minifigure inside the included blue sphere, you can launch Sonic by pressing down the star on the launcher. This will cause Sonic to shoot off in the rolling ball, as if he is running fast. You can use this to ride over the ramp piece or smash through the spikes.

If you use this against the Eggman mech (and if you successfully hit into the front of the robot’s belly), then the mech’s back will pop open—revealing animals Sonic can rescue.

The set includes three minifigures; Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman/Robotnik, and Cubot.

The Sonic minifigure looks a lot like the one included in the first Sonic the Hedgehog set released a year ago, Sonic the Hedgehog” Green Hill Zone. This one and the Sonic figure included in this set include more details than the original Lego Dimensions Sonic minifigure, who lacked as much printing.

The Eggman minifigure is very unique and interesting. He does not contain a normal minifigure torso, but rather a larger piece with an unremovable and unmovable head. The arms, however, can be removed from this piece.

My Thoughts?

This set is the perfect gift for any kid looking to spend some time playing with toys and imagination. Many details in this set allow for creativity and building. Some of the coolest parts of this set include the robot, its interaction with sphere-sonic, and the sonic sphere launcher that shoots Sonic rolling across any surface.

I didn’t really notice anything negative about this set. Overall, everything in the builds were durable and play-friendly. Even though the Dr. Eggman minifigure was different than most minifigures, he and the other figures in this set all look great.
