Lego can make superhero sets, star wars ships, and models based on fan ideas, but there is one part of Lego that will always remain in the heart of classic brick building—Lego City.
In this article, I will be listing the top 10 Lego City sets of 2023, including classic sets like a police-chase set to some of the more unique City sets, such as a videogamer truck. Some of these sets are new and barely released, while some have been out for a while before 2023.
Best Lego City Sets – From Most Expensive to Least Expensive
Downtown 60380: $199.99
This set is huge! It includes two stacked, reconfigurable buildings connected with a bridge, 14 minifigures, a parrot, a dog, and an exclusive printed dinosaur headpiece. The shops inside the buildings create a barbershop, a tech store, a vet clinic, and a pizza stand. The set is amazing, though I can’t list all of the amazing details in this short space, so if you would like to see more, go here on Lego.com: Downtown
Freight Train 60336: $199.99
This set is really cool too. A large train with four individual train cars and 6 minifigures are included. One of the neatest parts is the inclusion of a long train track—which can be built into a circle or combined with you already-owned Lego train tracks to make an even bigger train. You can actually buy more tracks for this train here: Tracks. Make sure to check out this freight train on Lego.com using this link: Freight Train
Arctic Explorer Ship 60368: $159.99
This set, released recently, provides the pieces to create a huge ocean explorer model that includes a captain’s bridge, open-able hull, and a working crane. Inside the set, we can see a viking’s shipwreck, a small dinghy life-raft boat, an explorer helicopter, and—my favorite part—a Lego Orca! The set has 7 minifigures inside, all decked out with arctic-explorer uniforms. See this set on Lego.com here: Arctic Explorer Ship
Passenger Airplane 60367: $119.99
I think this is one of the coolest new Lego City sets out there. It’s simply a passenger plane, but it looks very good and would be amazing to both kids wanting to play and collectors wanting to decorate their Lego City. Other than the plane, other pieces are included that belong to an airport, such as a catering truck, an airstair, and a pushback tug. There also facilities onboard the train, including a toilet, seat-back screens, and a food trolley! The nine minifigures inside range from airport workers to pilots to plane passengers. You can see this set here on Lego.com: Passenger Airplane
Deep-Sea Explorer Submarine 60379: $109.99
Themed similarly to the Arctic Explorer Ship, this City set includes a explorer submarine, rather than a boat. Though not as big, it also includes some really cool models inside, such as a large jellyfish build, a shipwreck filled with sharks of different sizes, a water drone, and a mech explorer suit. This set includes 6 minifigures, or seven if you include the pirate skeleton, and you can see more details at Lego.com using this link: Deep-Sea Explorer Submarine
Police Chase at the Bank 60317: $99.99
I had to include at least one classic police-chase City set in this list, so here you go! This set is big and kind of pricey, but it is really cool. Three police minifigures are included and three robbers in red suits are included, plus a red robber flying drone. The set includes three vehicles, a truck for the cops, a police helicopter, and a truck for the robbers, which both all to the set’s static model, which is a bank. The set includes tons of neat little details that you can find while building, or you can see some of them here on Lego.com: Police Chase at the Bank
Construction Trucks and Wrecking Ball Crane 60391: $59.99
A Lego City can’t be built without construction workers and vehicles! This set is neat because it adds three vehicles—a dump truck, a wrecking ball crane, and a ramped transporter truck—and four construction worker minifigures. The set is small, is meant to be easy-to-build, and includes many fun vehicles and details, especially for younger Lego-fans. Check out this set here: Construction Trucks and Wrecking Ball Crane
Gaming Tournament Truck 60388: $39.99
This set is very unique and is nothing like any other Lego set. It actually includes a videogame-themed truck that opens up and showcases a videogaming tournament. Other than the truck, nothing is included in this set except for two videogamer minifigures, an announcer minifigure, and another generic Lego City minifigure. The set is unique, but if you or someone you know is into videogames and Lego bricks, this might be the set for you. You can see this set using this link here: Gaming Tournament Truck
Mobile Police Dog Training 60369: $29.99
This set was creatively made as a dog training set for police, which is neat. Inside the set, we can find an SUV, a man minifigure with a dog-training suit (with unique cactus-arms), another female cop minifigure, a dog, and a puppy. The set also includes some small builds meant to be training items for the dogs, such as a jumping course and dog-food. This makes the perfect set for any dog-lover or anyone who wants to add to their Lego police station collection. See the set here at Lego.com: Mobile Police Dog Training
Road Plates 60304: $19.99
This set is the smallest on the list, has no minifigures, and only 112 pieces. Despite this, though, this set can add a lot to anyone’s Lego City. Why? Because this set builds roads—a staple for any city, of course. The roads can be built in different customizable ways meaning if you buy this set more than once, you can create long, complex roads for your Lego City. Road signs and streetlights are even included. See this set with more details on Lego.com here: Road Plates
